Plain ole’ text files kept in Markdown are great for just about everything. And a general purpose Markdown editor (like Obsidian!) is usually the best tool for the job.
But… Lists. Lists should be quick and easy! But on the phone Markdown lists only require 8 “easy” steps:
- Open your favorite general Markdown editor.
- Search for the list in your giant pile of files.
- Find the list in the file.
- Get the cursor to the right place with some tappy/swipey mashing.
- Deal with the fact that you are in a general purpose editor that only mostly understands you are dealing with a list.
- Curse the fact that the hotkeys you might use on a computer aren’t easily available.
- Get the job done in the end.
- Contemplate moving your lists to Apple Notes.
CheckMarked is there (in an incredibly specific way) to help.
CheckMarked lets you select the files you want and presents just the lists in them in clean and convenient iPhone-friendly way. Every addition/removal/edit/and crossoff is saved back to the file in plain Markdown (respecting and ignoring any other Markdown in the file of course).
